VCFA, Cats and Rita Williams Garcia’s Dream House

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

I’m here at Vermont College for the summer residency. But leaving home is always a little bittersweet.

I love being here, but I do miss those cats. And seriously, people, have you ever seen anything cuter than Hoss and Peach in their snuggle mode?

Purrrrrr…

Then again, Rita’s dream house is pretty darned cute too, not to mention the lovely Rita herself…

Wish you were here!

Inaugural Post

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Oh frabjous day, calloo callay!

For years I’ve resisted blogging, partly because I feared (and still do) that it could easily become yet another distraction, partly because it seemed like I was already “out there” on the web, what with Facebook and Twitter, but mostly it was because I just didn’t think I had that much to add to the cyber conversation.  There are about a billion blogs out there, on every topic imaginable, so I thought, “what could I possibly say that isn’t already being said?”

Nevertheless, the lure of joining the blogosphere has now pulled me in and I’ve decided to give it a go.  I’ve also decided that I’m not going to even attempt to use this space to say anything serious or important.  If that happens it will be an accident.  I’ve also decided that I want to have fun with this space.

It’s no coincidence that the inaugural blog is on the same day that I’m heading out for a book tour for my second novel, Keeper. I’m going to use this space as my travel notebook.  And guess what?  I bought one of those tiny Flipcam Video Cameras so I can record some of the places that I’m going.  I’m hoping they’ll be sort of like “home movies.”  I’ve been practicing with it, and my first stab at being a film maker is “Introducing the Appelt Cats.”  Hope you enjoy, and be sure to check in from time to time.  I’d love to hear from you.
